You might remember that I have been busy making little granny squares for Sharon's Possum Magic quilt.
There were two main influences for choosing little (3.25" finished) grannies as the second border.
First, I was so impressed by the work that Sharon put into her centre. There are some very small hexies in the middle of the Dresden and I wanted to reflect those in my border ... so some tiny piecing was in order!
Second, Jo did such an awesome job on the first border - so much work, so many fabrics - I wanted to celebrate her border by giving it a little room (and bask in it's glory) ... white space was in order.
I didn't put any old white fabric in there though ... I made sure that the fabric had a bit of pizazz ... Michael Miller Mirror Ball Dot anyone? ... my grannies know how to party!
You can see here the method that I used to make these grannies. They are so fun to make!
I'm bringing up the rear of the group again by finally finishing my border on Sharon's centre.
Technically I'm a day late ... but ... as I pass this onto Carla next (and she's currently on holiday for another week) ... I'm going with "Hooray I finished a week early!"

ReplyDeleteWOW! It is amazing, just when I think "this can't get better", you ladies make them better!! Serena, you knocked this one right out of the park!! Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Your border is perfect in every way. Sharon will be over the moon with how this is looking.
ReplyDeleteThese Possum Magic quilts are looking so great! I think your border here is just right.
ReplyDeleteThis is looking great! I love the granny squares in the border.
ReplyDeleteit looks so so amazing :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous - well done Possom's! Grannies are perfect on it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing and really does give space to focus on the center. The mirror ball dots are fabulous, too!
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo!!! :D That looks so amazing! Especially with the slightly sneaky surprise of the mirror ball dots. Great, great job!
ReplyDeleteWell done Serena. It's looking really great. Calming it down a bit was exactly what was required. The white space does give the centre room to breathe. Each of the quilts really is taking on a life of it's own, and we've only had 3 rounds so far. They are going to be masterpieces!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, well done! I'm enjoying seeing the progress on all your possum magic quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love all the white space with the tiny piecing. A great addition to this impressive quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! FABULOUS! I've only just found out about the possum magic traveling quilts (I'm a bit slow) and I'm so envious of all your talents and the amazing quilts that are being made. It's a brilliant idea and I can't wait to see how they all turn out!
ReplyDeletethis is great, the tiny grannies are so cute.
ReplyDeleteYour Grannies like to party, huh? You are too funny. The addition is fantastic!
ReplyDeletewow. At first I just couldn't get hold of this whole thing--couldn't really see where it was going, etc. But, it is completely beautiful. I do love how you used the white on white to give it some room to show the pattern, and your grannies are perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Serena! That's all I can say, again WOW!
ReplyDeleteYes this is stunning, all of it, I do love a bit of white on white and mirror ball dots are genius.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's stunning!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely high fives! White space was the right move, and it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteNow, I can try to include as many fabrics as I can find. Mwa ha haa! We have had hexagons, triangles, granny squares and a circle ... There are not many shapes left to try. I need a big thinking cap!
My granny has always liked to party and would love mirror balls.
So glad you went this way with the white space it's perfect!!.....must.......resist ........making......teeny tiny grannies!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow!! It;s stunning. And so many good choices, well done!
ReplyDeleteI know you said before your grannies are rock and roll, but with those mirror ball dots, wouldn't they be more disco? ;) The Avante Garden fabric works so well with the others; it kind of has that dark colourful tone that the ruler print I used has too to make it all blend.
ReplyDeleteThe white space between your grannie was a great idea, the whole top is coming together great! Those mini grannies are also too stinkin' cute!
ReplyDeleteOh, boy! You really made such a wonderful addition for this round robin. Perfect design eye for it, and such nice granny squares.
