My hugs and kisses baby quilt is coming along nicely. The last time we met I had pieced all the little squares that were destined to make hugs and kisses blocks - following this video tutorial.
I’m using mainly fabrics from Aneela Hoey’s Posy Range for the print fabrics, but I have added a few randoms that I picked up at a garage sale, they are quite retro pretty … wish I knew the name.
Do you have favourites when you’re piecing similar blocks?
Twelve blocks should be enough once I add the sashing. I’m going with white, by the way, thanks to the unanimous opinion of the people that visited this space last week.
Thinking ahead, I’ve been struggling lately to quilt on my little sewing machine. He tries so hard – he’s like the little engine that could – but the truth of the matter is it’s tough to push even a baby sized quilt through the limited throat space. So to get around this, I thought I would give Maureen’s QAYG “quilt-as-you-go” technique a try.
Have you tried this before?
My thinking is to put oversized sashing around the O’s and X’s blocks and then trim them down to size once I’ve quilted it.
Watch this space!
I love those blocks - this is going to be such a pretty quilt!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog - unfortunately, you're a 'no-reply' blogger at the moment so I can't reply. If you reply to this comment then I'll be able to reply to yours ;o)
Thank you for your help with the 'no reply' blogger status, hopefully it's all fixed now :)
DeleteI love those blocks! I totally have favorites when I piece ones that are the same. There are also ones that I look at and think, yuck! I have never tried a quilt as you go but I saw someone do it at a guild sewing day and it looked pretty easy.
ReplyDelete"pretty easy" ... they're the words I love to read :)
DeletePretty pastel colors:) I have done QAYG. It is a quick reward;)
ReplyDelete"quick reward" - I love to read those words too!
DeleteI'm trying a quilt as you go right now. It's fun! I'm doing one large piece, probably 3'x3' and it's going great! Pretty little x's and o's.
ReplyDeleteHave you put your QAYG project on your blog? I'll come over and check it out.
DeleteLovely fabric and blocks. White is my favorite background fabric!!
ReplyDeleteWhite is pretty hard to beat - I was thinking of using a soft grey at first, but I'll go the consensus :)
DeleteLovely colours Serena, I went and had a look at quilt-as-you-go and not being a quilter myself I found interesting and did look and sound easy.....Mmmm I think I need to finish some other projects that I have started first, you do certainly inspire me to do so :)
ReplyDeleteLol Mum, yes you do have a few projects on the go - that's just your creative style :)
DeleteLooking gorgeous, I love that fabric range. I haven't tried the QAYG technique on a quilt but I think it might be something I need to try. Want to make a REALLY big quilt so it might be the way to go.
